Keep abilities from hurting players or blocks

Abilities never hurt players or break builds unless you allow it, and claims and protection mods still have the last word.

Out of the box, mount abilities can’t hurt other players and can’t change the world beyond blocks that fade by themselves. Everything here is in fantasy-server.toml.

Players

[abilities]
    # Let abilities damage other players.
    allowPvP = false
    # Let the Giant Spider's web shots hold players in place and hurt them.
    webShotPvP = false

The two are separate, so a server can allow one without the other.

Blocks

Setting What it covers
temporaryBlocks Blocks that fade by themselves: frost-walk ice, lava crusts, sky bridges, wisp lights. "WITH_MOB_GRIEFING" (the default) places them only while the mobGriefing game rule is on. "ALWAYS" places them whatever mobGriefing says, so lava walking and sky bridges keep working on servers that turn mob griefing off. "NEVER" runs those abilities without their blocks
allowBlockDamage Lasting changes, such as fire breath setting what it hits alight. Off by default, and needs mobGriefing on too
blockChanges under [wild] What wild mounts do to the world on their own: grazers eat grass down to dirt, spiders spin webs that fade, treants and qilin grow plants. Needs mobGriefing on too
hoarding under [wild] Hoarding mounts carry dropped items off to a pile of their own. Needs blockChanges too

Claims and protection

Before an ability changes a block, the mod checks that the mount’s driver could build there themselves. Adventure and spectator mode, spawn protection and the world border all stop it, and claim and protection mods can refuse it. See Other mods for which ones.

One ability, one mount

To switch off a single ability for one kind of mount, list it in that mount’s section:

[mounts.polar_bear]
    disabledAbilities = ["fantasy:frost_walk"]

The rules page lists the ability ids of every mount.

The settings

Each with what it does, its default and the values it takes. Copy a line, or change them all in the Settings Workbench.

fantasy-server.toml

abilities.allowPvP#

Allow mount abilities to damage other players (web shots have their own switch: webShotPvP).

On or offDefault false

abilities.webShotPvP#

Let web shots (the Giant Spider's) hold other players in place and hurt them. Separate from allowPvP, so a server can allow one without the other. How long the web holds and how much it hurts are set in data packs (root_ticks and damage on fantasy:web_shot).

On or offDefault false

abilities.allowBlockDamage#

Allow abilities to change blocks beyond temporary crusts: fire breath sets fire to what it hits. Needs mobGriefing too; claim mods can still deny it.

On or offDefault false

abilities.temporaryBlocks#

When abilities may place blocks that fade by themselves (frost-walk ice, lava crusts, sky bridges, wisp lights). WITH_MOB_GRIEFING: only while the mobGriefing game rule is on. ALWAYS: whatever mobGriefing says (lava walking and sky bridges keep working on servers that turn mob griefing off). NEVER: those abilities run without their blocks. Claim mods can still deny a block either way.

One ofALWAYSWITH_MOB_GRIEFINGNEVER

wild.blockChanges#

Let wild behaviours change the world as animals do: grazers eat grass down to dirt, spiders spin webs that fade, treants and qilin grow plants, hoarders pick up dropped items. Needs mobGriefing too; claim mods can still deny it.

On or offDefault true

wild.hoarding#

Let hoarding mounts carry dropped items off to a pile of their own. Needs blockChanges too.

On or offDefault true

mounts.*.disabledAbilities#

Ability ids to switch off for this mount, e.g. ["fantasy:frost_walk"].
