How do I...Server owners

Make mounts level faster or slower

One number speeds up all experience. Below it you can tune each activity, the level curve, the cap and skill points.

Tamed mounts earn experience as they ride, follow, fight and spend time with their owner, level up, unlock their abilities and earn points for their skill tree.

The one number most servers need

# fantasy-server.toml
[progression]
    # 2.0 levels mounts twice as fast; 0 stops levelling.
    xpMultiplier = 2.0

Switches

Also in [progression] of fantasy-server.toml:

Setting Off means
enabled No levels at all: every ability is there from taming and nothing grows. Progress is kept for when it’s back on
lockAbilitiesByLevel Every ability is there from taming, while levels still raise stats
statGrowth Levels don’t raise stats
skillTrees No skill points, and learned skills have no effect

skillResetMode decides how owners change learned skills. "RESPEC" (the default) lets them unlearn skills on the mount’s profile and pick others, then wait respecCooldownSeconds (10 minutes) before unlearning again. "TONIC" allows it only with a Renewal Tonic, which resets every skill at once.

Fine-tuning

In fantasy-balance.toml:

  • Each activity: under [progression.xp], riding, following, nearOwner, abilities, combat, feeding, breeding and tending each multiply their own XP. 0 turns that activity’s XP off.
  • The curve: XP from one level to the next is xpBase + xpGrowth x level^xpExponent. As shipped, that is 140 XP for level 2, about 4,600 in all for level 10 and 59,000 for level 30. A new curve re-levels mounts from the XP they already have.
  • The cap: maxLevel (0 keeps each mount’s own, 30 for every shipped mount).
  • Skill points: skillPointsPerLevel (-1 keeps each mount’s own, 1 for every shipped mount).

Skills a lower cap or fewer points no longer cover rest, kept, until they are covered again.

The settings

Each with what it does, its default and the values it takes. Copy a line, or change them all in the Settings Workbench.

fantasy-server.toml

progression.xpMultiplier#

Multiplies all experience mounts earn (2.0 levels them twice as fast, 0 stops levelling). Quests' bond items are multiplied as they are handed out, and keep the worth they show.

NumberDefault 1From 0 to 100

progression.enabled#

Tamed mounts earn experience, level up, unlock abilities and learn skills. Off: every ability is there from taming and nothing grows (progress is kept for when it is turned back on).

On or offDefault true

progression.lockAbilitiesByLevel#

Abilities wait for the level they unlock at. Off: every ability from taming.

On or offDefault true

progression.statGrowth#

Mounts' stats rise a little with each level, as their definition says.

On or offDefault true

progression.skillTrees#

Mounts earn skill points to spend in their skill tree. Off: learned skills have no effect.

On or offDefault true

progression.skillResetMode#

How owners change learned skills. RESPEC: right-click learned skills on the mount's profile to unlearn them, pick others, and press Save; then no skill can be unlearned again until respecCooldownSeconds pass (a Renewal Tonic still resets every skill at once, at any time). TONIC: only a Renewal Tonic, which resets every skill at once.

One ofRESPECTONIC

progression.respecCooldownSeconds#

With skillResetMode RESPEC: seconds of game time after a mount's skills are changed before any can be unlearned again (learning new ones never waits). 0: no wait.

Whole numberDefault 600From 0 to 604,800

fantasy-balance.toml

progression.maxLevel#

The highest level for every mount (0: each mount's own, 30 for every shipped mount). Never goes below the level a mount's last ability or skill unlocks at, so nothing goes out of reach.

Whole numberDefault 0From 0 to 100

progression.skillPointsPerLevel#

Skill points every level after the first gives (-1: each mount's own, 1 for every shipped mount).

Whole numberDefault -1From -1 to 5

progression.xpBase#

XP every level takes, before the growth.

NumberDefault 100From 0 to 100,000

progression.xpGrowth#

XP added per level, raised to xpExponent.

NumberDefault 40From 0 to 100,000

progression.xpExponent#

How much steeper each level gets (1: every level adds the same; 2: later levels take far longer).

NumberDefault 1.4From 0 to 4

progression.xp.riding#

Carrying a rider on the move.

NumberDefault 1From 0 to 100
