Server rules

Who may ride, where mounts fly, PvP and griefing, levelling, quests, shinies, the whistle, and each mount on or off.

fantasy-server.tomlThe server (or your world in single player)Applies while the game runs52 settings
This file belongs to the world, or to the server. On a server, the server's copy decides for every player on it. In single player it is your world's. On Forge, Fabric and Quilt (and NeoForge up to 26.2) it is in the world's serverconfig folder; on NeoForge 26.3 and newer, in config.

Riding [riding]

Who may ride and drive mounts.

riderPermission#

Who may take a mount's driver seat: OWNER, TRUSTED (owner + trusted list) or ANYONE.

One ofOWNERTRUSTEDANYONE

trustedRiders#

Let owners trust other players from the mount screen. Trusted players may open the saddlebags and, with riderPermission TRUSTED, drive. Off: the list is hidden and ignored.

On or offDefault true

nonPlayerPassengers#

Allow tamed pets and villagers on passenger seats that permit them.

On or offDefault true

Flight [flight]

Rules for flying mounts. These only restrict what a mount's definition allows.

enabled#

Allow mounts to fly at all.

On or offDefault true

allowedDimensions#

Dimensions where mounts may fly (dimension ids).

ListDefault ["minecraft:overworld", "minecraft:the_end"]

maxAltitude#

Highest Y a flying mount may climb to.

NumberDefault 320From -64 to 4,096

maxSpeed#

Upper bound on any mount's flight speed, in blocks per tick (keep below chunk loading).

NumberDefault 1.8From 0.1 to 4

combatLockoutSeconds#

Seconds a rider can't take off after taking damage from another player.

Whole numberDefault 10From 0 to 600

fallDamageOnStall#

If true, a mount that runs out of stamina takes fall damage when it lands.

On or offDefault false

deathSlowFallSeconds#

Seconds of slow falling given to riders when their mount dies in the air (0: none).

Whole numberDefault 10From 0 to 60

Abilities [abilities]

Server-wide switches for mount abilities.

allowBlockDamage#

Allow abilities to change blocks beyond temporary crusts: fire breath sets fire to what it hits. Needs mobGriefing too; claim mods can still deny it.

On or offDefault false

allowPvP#

Allow mount abilities to damage other players (web shots have their own switch: webShotPvP).

On or offDefault false

webShotPvP#

Let web shots (the Giant Spider's) hold other players in place and hurt them. Separate from allowPvP, so a server can allow one without the other. How long the web holds and how much it hurts are set in data packs (root_ticks and damage on fantasy:web_shot).

On or offDefault false

glowingVisionRange#

Range in blocks of the Golden Carrot Stew's glowing vision.

Whole numberDefault 500From 0 to 10,000

temporaryBlocks#

When abilities may place blocks that fade by themselves (frost-walk ice, lava crusts, sky bridges, wisp lights). WITH_MOB_GRIEFING: only while the mobGriefing game rule is on. ALWAYS: whatever mobGriefing says (lava walking and sky bridges keep working on servers that turn mob griefing off). NEVER: those abilities run without their blocks. Claim mods can still deny a block either way.

One ofALWAYSWITH_MOB_GRIEFINGNEVER

glowingMountsLightTheWorld#

Glowing mounts (and wild ones whose behaviour glows) light up what is around them: an invisible light block follows each one as it moves. Off: they still glow, but light nothing, which spares a busy server those block and lighting updates.

On or offDefault true

Progression [progression]

Mount levels, ability unlocks, stat growth and skill trees. To fine-tune the level curve, the level cap, skill points or XP per activity, see fantasy-balance.toml; to make single skills stronger or weaker, see fantasy-skills.toml.

enabled#

Tamed mounts earn experience, level up, unlock abilities and learn skills. Off: every ability is there from taming and nothing grows (progress is kept for when it is turned back on).

On or offDefault true

xpMultiplier#

Multiplies all experience mounts earn (2.0 levels them twice as fast, 0 stops levelling). Quests' bond items are multiplied as they are handed out, and keep the worth they show.

NumberDefault 1From 0 to 100

lockAbilitiesByLevel#

Abilities wait for the level they unlock at. Off: every ability from taming.

On or offDefault true

statGrowth#

Mounts' stats rise a little with each level, as their definition says.

On or offDefault true

skillTrees#

Mounts earn skill points to spend in their skill tree. Off: learned skills have no effect.

On or offDefault true

skillResetMode#

How owners change learned skills. RESPEC: right-click learned skills on the mount's profile to unlearn them, pick others, and press Save; then no skill can be unlearned again until respecCooldownSeconds pass (a Renewal Tonic still resets every skill at once, at any time). TONIC: only a Renewal Tonic, which resets every skill at once.

One ofRESPECTONIC

respecCooldownSeconds#

With skillResetMode RESPEC: seconds of game time after a mount's skills are changed before any can be unlearned again (learning new ones never waits). 0: no wait.

Whole numberDefault 600From 0 to 604,800

Wild [wild]

What untamed mounts do on their own where they live: grazing, burrowing, howling, hunting and more. Which behaviours a mount has is set in data packs (its definition's wild block).

behaviors#

Untamed mounts graze, burrow, bask, sleep, call, hunt and the rest on their own. Off: they only wander and look around.

On or offDefault true

blockChanges#

Let wild behaviours change the world as animals do: grazers eat grass down to dirt, spiders spin webs that fade, treants and qilin grow plants, hoarders pick up dropped items. Needs mobGriefing too; claim mods can still deny it.

On or offDefault true

hunting#

Let wild predators hunt small wild animals (never pets, named or leashed animals, or players).

On or offDefault true

forageFinds#

Let foragers turn up small finds as they dig and root around (flint, berries, a nugget, now and then raw iron or copper), left where they find them. Off: they forage without finding anything.

On or offDefault true

hoarding#

Let hoarding mounts carry dropped items off to a pile of their own. Needs blockChanges too.

On or offDefault true

Whistle [whistle]

The Mount Whistle, which calls a tamed mount to follow you.

allowWhistle#

Should mounts obey the Mount Whistle.

On or offDefault true

immuneWhileFollowing#

Mount is immune to damage while following its whistle.

On or offDefault true

soundVolume#

Whistle sound volume (1.0 = 100%).

NumberDefault 1From 0 to 10

maxDistance#

Max blocks away a mount can be for whistle commands. The mount must be in the same dimension and in a loaded area either way.

NumberDefault 2,000From 1 to 30,000,000

teleport#

A mount following its whistle teleports to its owner when it falls far behind (as tamed wolves do). Off: it always walks or flies the whole way. The distance is in fantasy-balance.toml.

On or offDefault true

Shiny [shiny]

Shiny mounts: a rare look of their own (a new colour, glow, extra parts and an aura), rolled once when a mount first spawns.

odds#

A spawned mount (wild or from a spawn egg) is shiny 1 time in this many. 0 turns shinies off.

Whole numberDefault 4,096From 0 to 1,000,000

parentOdds#

A foal with a shiny parent is shiny 1 time in this many (used only when better than odds). 0: foals of shinies have the usual odds.

Whole numberDefault 512From 0 to 1,000,000

Encyclopedia [encyclopedia]

The Riders Encyclopedia: each player's guide to the mounts they have come across.

discoveryRange#

How close, in blocks, a mount must come in plain sight to fill in its encyclopedia entry. Touching, riding or taming one always does.

Whole numberDefault 16From 4 to 64

revealAll#

Every entry is filled in from the start, as a plain guide (discoveries are still recorded).

On or offDefault false

discoveryHint#

Tell players above the hotbar when they discover a mount, with the key that opens the encyclopedia.

On or offDefault true

Quests [quests]

Quests: the narrator (in the shipped quests Professor Thornquill, the wandering bestiarist) writes to players in their Field Journal when they meet or tame a mount, with tasks about it. Rewards and hints are scaled in fantasy-balance.toml; the quests and the people in them are data (data/<namespace>/fantasy_quest and fantasy_quest_speaker).

enabled#

Quests and their narrator. Off: no introduction, no letters, no quest tracker, and no quest NPCs or foes. Players' quest progress is kept for when quests are turned back on.

On or offDefault true

introduction#

Greet each player with the narrator's introduction (and its first quest) the first time they join the world.

On or offDefault true

encounters#

Let quests place their people and foes in the world: the narrator's camp, a captive to rescue, a named foe. Off: such an objective counts once the player stands where it would have been.

On or offDefault true

lockEncyclopedia#

Keep a mount's Riders Encyclopedia entry to what anyone who met one could tell (its picture, name, description, temperament, size and riders, and the player's own field notes) until the player finishes one of the mount's quests: where it lives, how to tame and breed it, how it rides, its abilities and stats open then. How to tame one opens early once a quest asks the player to tame one. Mounts without quests, or switched off, show in full, and nothing is held back while quests are off or encyclopedia.revealAll is on.

On or offDefault true

Quests: earn mounts [quests.earnMounts]

Earn mounts through their quests (off unless enabled is true). While on, a player who hasn't finished one of a kind of mount's quests can still tame, saddle, equip and whistle for one, but can't do what is switched on below until they finish one. Mounts with no quests are never held back, and nothing is while quests.enabled is false. A quest that asks the player to ride one or raise one to a level opens that early, so a quest is never held back by this.

enabled#

Make players finish one of a kind of mount's quests before they may do what is switched on below with mounts of that kind. Off: riding, breeding and bond items are never held back, whatever the switches below say.

On or offDefault false

riding#

Only while enabled is true: hold back riding. The player can't take the reins of a tamed mount of the kind (its driver's seat; a passenger seat on someone else's mount stays open). Checked as they get on. Taming one by riding it still works.

On or offDefault true

breeding#

Only while enabled is true: hold back breeding. The player can't feed mounts of the kind into love mode.

On or offDefault true

bondItems#

Only while enabled is true: hold back bond items. The player can't give bond items (Bond Shards and Crystals) to mounts of the kind; they still level up as they follow and fight.

On or offDefault true

Updates [updates]

Whether a dedicated server says in its log when a new Fantasy Mounts is out.

check#

On a dedicated server: when it starts, and at most about twice a day, ask fantasymounts.com whether a newer Fantasy Mounts is out, and if so say so in one line of the server log (players are never told). The request carries only the mod's version. Off: never ask. Forge's and NeoForge's versionCheck = false in config/fml.toml turns it off too.

On or offDefault true

Each mount [mounts.<mount>]

Per-mount switches. Each mount's stats can be scaled in fantasy-balance.toml; its seats, foods, spawns and art are set in data packs (data/<namespace>/fantasy_mount/<mount>.json and friends).

Every mount has a section of its own with these settings, named after it, like [mounts.unicorn].

enabled#

If false, this mount can't be spawned, tamed or ridden and doesn't spawn naturally.

On or offDefault true

wildSpawns#

Allow natural spawns in the wild.

On or offDefault true

maxRiders#

Cap on riders (0 = as many seats as the mount has).

Whole numberDefault 0From 0 to 8

allowBreeding#

Allow breeding.

On or offDefault true

disabledAbilities#

Ability ids to switch off for this mount, e.g. ["fantasy:frost_walk"].
