What data packs change
The settings files scale and switch things. Where mounts spawn, what they eat, their seats and their quests are data, which data packs change.
The config files switch things on and off and scale the numbers the mod ships with. What each mount is comes from data, which a data pack can replace like any of Minecraft’s own:
| Data | What it holds |
|---|---|
| A mount’s definition | Its stats, seats, foods, taming and equipment |
| Spawns | Which biomes each mount spawns in, and how often |
| Skill trees | Each skill’s cost, ranks and the level it opens at |
| Quests and their people | The quests, their stages and rewards, and who writes or speaks them |
Before you write one
- Try a setting first. Most changes people make with data packs are already a setting: turn a mount or its wild spawns off, scale its stats, change spawn numbers, tame faster. A setting keeps working when the mod updates; a copied data file doesn’t get the update’s fixes.
- Spawn changes need a restart. Where mounts spawn is read when the world loads.
- Settings still apply on top. The balance and skills files multiply whatever your data pack sets.
Every shipped value is in the mod’s jar, under data/fantasy/, to start from.
