Ship your settings in a modpack
Put your files in defaultconfigs so every new world starts with your rules, and in config for players' own settings.
A modpack ships its settings in two places:
| What | Where in the pack | Used |
|---|---|---|
The rules, balance and skills (fantasy-server.toml, fantasy-balance.toml, fantasy-skills.toml) |
defaultconfigs/ |
Copied in when a world’s file is made for the first time |
Players’ own settings (fantasy-client.toml) |
config/ |
As shipped, until the player changes them |
So every new world, in single player or on a server made from the pack, starts with your rules. Worlds that already have their files keep them.
On NeoForge 26.3 and newer, the three server files live in config/ rather than in each world: a copy in defaultconfigs/ is used the first time the file is made. See Where the files are.
Tips
- Only ship the settings you changed. Make them with the Settings Workbench, which writes a file with just your changes: the mod fills in everything else with its defaults when it first reads it.
- Keep the
configVersionline. When a later version of the mod renames a setting or moves it within its file, it uses that line to carry your value over. - Use multipliers (the balance and skills files) rather than copying numbers. Balance fixes in later versions still reach your players, with your scaling on top.
