How setting up the mod works
Four small text files decide how Fantasy Mounts plays, and you never need to restart to change them.
Fantasy Mounts works out of the box. When you want it your way, everything you can change is in four text files. Each one has a job:
| File | What it decides | Whose it is |
|---|---|---|
fantasy-server.toml |
The rules: who may ride, where mounts fly, PvP and griefing, levelling, quests, shinies, and each mount on or off | The server, or your world in single player |
fantasy-balance.toml |
The numbers: stats, abilities, XP, taming, breeding, wild life and spawning, as multipliers | The server, or your world in single player |
fantasy-skills.toml |
How strong each skill in every skill tree is | The server, or your world in single player |
fantasy-client.toml |
How the mod looks, sounds and feels for you: HUD, camera, controls, volumes, theme, quest tracker | You alone |
Most people only ever open two of them: fantasy-server.toml to set the rules, and fantasy-client.toml for their own game. The balance and skills files are there for owners who want to rebalance. Leave them alone and the mod plays exactly as designed.
Three things worth knowing
- Changes apply while the game runs. Save the file and the mod picks it up within a couple of seconds. Players on a server get the new rules a moment later. There is no need to restart.
- Multipliers, not copies. The balance and skills files multiply what the mod ships with:
1.0is as shipped,1.5is half again. When an update fine-tunes a mount, your scaling still sits on top of it, so you never fall behind on fixes. - Nothing breaks if you get it wrong. A number outside its range is set back inside it, and a value the mod can’t read goes back to its default. The game says so in its log. See Editing a config file.
Where to go next
- Find the files: Where the files are.
- Want something specific? The Learn home page searches every setting, or browse the guides under How do I… in the menu.
- Rather not edit text? Use the Settings Workbench: flip switches and it writes the lines for you.
- Here to learn about the mounts themselves, their abilities, how to tame them or what an item does? That is all in the Riders Encyclopedia.
