Fix a problem
The messages you might see when joining a server or editing a file, what each means, and what to do about it.
“This server runs Fantasy Mounts …”
The server and your game have different copies of the mod. The message says which one the server has and which build to install:
| The message says your copy… | Do this |
|---|---|
| is older | Install the version the server names |
| is newer | Install the version the server names, or ask the server to update |
| is a different build (a beta and a public release, say) | Install the build the server names |
| has different mounts | Install the server’s build exactly |
“… is required to join this server” or “doesn’t match this server’s”
On Fabric and Quilt, these mean the mod is missing from your game, or your version speaks to servers differently from the server’s. Install the version the server runs. On Forge and NeoForge, the loader’s own mismatch screen names the mod in the same case.
“Unknown keys”, “Failed to synchronize registry data” or “Connection Lost”
Usually the server has mounts your copy doesn’t: an older version of the mod on your side. Install the server’s version.
A setting went back to its default
The value couldn’t be read (a typo, a missing quote) or was outside the range it accepts. The game’s log, logs/latest.log, says which, and a copy of your file as it was sits beside it as <file>-1.toml.bak. See Editing a config file.
My change does nothing
- Is it the right copy? On a server, its files decide, not the copies on your computer. On NeoForge 26.3 and newer the server files are in
config/, not the world’sserverconfigfolder. See Where the files are. - Is the server the one to change it? Rules, balance and skills are the server’s. Only
fantasy-client.tomlis yours on a server. - Spawns set by data packs need a restart. Everything in the config files applies while the game runs.
A mount won’t spawn in the wild
Check wildSpawns and enabled in its section of fantasy-server.toml, and chance under [spawning] in fantasy-balance.toml. The Riders Encyclopedia shows the biomes each mount lives in. With biome mods installed, some mounts are rarer.
A flying mount won’t take off
Flight may be off in this dimension (allowedDimensions), above maxAltitude, or held back for a few seconds after another player hurt you (combatLockoutSeconds). See Control where mounts fly.
An ability doesn’t place its blocks
Blocks that fade by themselves follow temporaryBlocks and the mobGriefing game rule, and claims, spawn protection and adventure mode can stop them. See Keep abilities from hurting players or blocks.
